More renovation works

I'm sure there must be a Confucius/Buddha/ancient Roman proverb along the lines that if you want something new and pretty, you have to get rid of the old first...

So this is what we've been doing the last week or two. Started the renovations of our top floor by removing the old floor/tiles.

There is still a lot - A LOT - of work to do but I am already so tired of all the dust and constant cleaning. Oh well...

PS. I just learned that mansard roof is named after a French architect, François Mansart... So cool.

Cultural Holiday

I don't know how many countries celebrate national cultural holidays but since we do, I celebrate it as well.

And I went to see an exhibition on Coptic textiles at the National Museum of Slovenia.

Which I strongly recommend. Highly interesting and very well done!

These two photos are from the National Museum homepage.

So, so pretty!

02022020

I know the traditional proverb says When in Rome, do as the Romans do. But what about if you like something so much that you adapt it as your own, even when not in Rome?

That's why I am totally adapting the French tradition on Candlemas, which is to eat pancakes.

So we had savoury galletes for lunch and sweet crepes for dinner.

Both with caramelised apples and flambées with Grand Marnier. And obligatory Bourbon vanilla ice-cream and more salted caramel (with beurre de Bretagne, demi-sel).

I didn't have the time to photograph the fire, but the results were de-li-ci-ous.

Any other French traditions that we can adopt :-)
