Musketeer costume

MiniMojcek Nr. 2 wanted to be a musketeer. So he was.

I made: the robe, the hat (altered a sheriff's hat as this was the only one I found in a shop), and the boots, while MrMojcek made the rapier.

Gandalf costume

MiniMojcek Nr. 1 decided he wanted to be Gandalf for the carnival.

So I made a Gandalf costume: the robe, the hat, the beard, the hair, the bag, the gloves, the pipe and the wooden staff.

I'm especially proud of the pipe. Made of Fimo polymer clay, it was quite tricky to make.

That time of the year

It's that time of the year again.

It's sewing time:

It's crafting time:

It's woodworking time:

And it was totally worth it :-)

Carnival costume: Bilbo

I realised that I haven't posted this year's carnival costumes yet. And it's been over a month! Oops.

The initial idea was to make Bilbo and Gandalf. Halfway through the sewing, Gandalf changed his mind and he decided to be an (improvised) mobster. Oh well.

So I only had to make Bilbo: too short brown trousers, green vest, golden ring and ... well... feet. We had the shirt and the coat so I didn't have to make them as well.

And the final result:
:-)

Carnival

There are days when you - regarding the current situation - don't quite feel like partying and having fun.

But a leopard just cannot change its spots. Or rather, a parrot cannot change its feathers.

Star Wars costumes

I'm sure every Mum sooner or later has to make a Star Wars costume.

Well, I had to make two in two days.

You know where this is going, right?

Indeed, Yoda himself: a coat, two hands, two feet, a cap with ears, and the cane.

Here, Mr. Mojcek had to step in as I did not have enough time to make everything. A bit of cardboard, XPS, pur foam, a blue foil, paper mache, acrylic paint ... etc etc ...

The finished clone trooper!

Mission accomplished.

Carnival time

I still owe you the images from this year's carnival costumes. I didn't really have much time to prepare them as I just returned from Portugal (couple of hours, actually!), but I (with the help of Mr. Mojcek!) did manage to make the coat, the belt, the mask and the lightsaber for Kylo Ren. Black shirt, black joggers and black gloves did the rest.

And thank God for silver spray paint! You can turn a blue-orange Nerf into a Man-in-Black-gun in minutes :-) And of course, thanks to C&A (or was it H&M?) where you can get really cheap black suits, white shirts and black ties :-)

Bat and James Bond

I decided to be a bat. Just some black clothes, black wings (I used the fabric that was left from the Harry Potter cloak) and some ears. Simple!

MiniMojcek Nr.1 wanted to be James Bond. Well, who doesn't want to be James Bond, right?

Luckily for me I found a black tie suit and shirt in H&M combined for about 30€ :-) So I only had to make a bow-tie, a holster and a gun. Well, I did the bow-tie and the holster, MrMojcek carved the gun (PPK something) out of wood and then painted it black.

And why do I always run out of black thread on a Saturday night? So everything was sewn with dark-blue, dark-red and dark-green...

Dumbledore costume

One day before the carnival my working table looked like this:

Thirty minutes later, the hat was made, without a pattern, just a slightly distorted ellipse and a rectangle sewn together.

All that I needed to make was the cloak, the beard and the glasses. As I was really rushing, so no time for taking pictures.

The glasses were simply made of a wire, the beard of felt and the wand used to be a wireless antenna :-)

Yusei costume

Mid-February and all the crafty mums in this part of the world are sewing like crazy. So am I.

MiniMojcek Nr. 1 decided he wanted to be Yusei from the Yu-Gi-Oh!
Picture from Yu-Gi-Oh Wikia.
So I first embellished an old pair of trousers:

 Made gloves ...
... the T-shirt ...
 ... the jacket ...

 and the wig/hat.

It's not perfect (hey, it's a carnival costume for kids!) but good enough. And he loves it, which is all that matters.

Harry Potter costume

MiniMojcek Nr.1 loves Harry potter books (and films) so this year he wanted to be Harry Potter. Since his wish is my command, Harry Potter he was.

I got a white shirt for a few Euros from H&M, but he still needed the cape and the tie. I made a very simplified tie from the burgundy fabric and painted gold stripes onto it.

The cape was done without a pattern and I just improvised with the hood. It does not lie completely flat on the shoulders but good enough for a costume. I of course lined the black cape with the burgundy Gryffindor fabric.

Oh, the white balance on this photo is a bit off balance :-)

Add a grey vest, glasses, an owl and the magic wand, a scar on the forehead and voila!

See you later... alligator!

This year MiniMojcek Nr.2 decided he wanted to be a cock/rooster. I didn't have time to make such an elaborate costume, besides, he was a parrot last year and this was just too similar. So I sent MrMojcek to talk him out of it and come up with something simpler.

He came back. The kid wanted to be a crocodile!

Sooo... off to H&M to buy some bright green leggings and long-sleeved T-shirt. I just made the head with the mouth and teeth:

and added the tail and the spikes on his back:

And then - he fell ill. So all the work was in vain.

Oh, well.

A parrrrot!

MiniMojcek Nr.2 was very clear when I asked him about his wishes for this year's costume: he wanted to be a parrot.

And a parrot he was.

I bought fleece in red, blue, green, and yellow to make the wings. I cut four semicircles and left some additional fabric at the top (red) layer had  to make sleeves.

The semicircles were cut to make them look like feathers.

A lot of cutting was done...

I bought some Indian headdress, plucked the feathers and sewed them on the wings.

Instead of sewing the whole costume, I bought a red onesie and leggings.

Unfortuntely, before I was able to make a hat with the beak, MiniMojcek Nr.2 fell ill (chicken pox) and he had to stay at home for two weeks. So I didn't even bother making the hat as he was already very very happy with the wings.

So was I.

Luke Skywalker costume

This time of year again when all the mothers in this part of the world go mad sewing and preparing all sorts of costumes. MiniMojcek Nr. 1 was very brief: he wanted to be Luke Skywalker. OK.

First I made off-white cotton canvas trousers. Two pieces sewn together with elastic in the waist:

The top was based on his Judo kimono. I never ever realised that kimono sleeves are drafted in one with the bodice! So, so easy to make.

Brown fleece was used to make the belt and the bag. It is perfectly clear to me that the original belt looks quite different and that the belt buckle is totally wrong, but that was one I had at home. Oh, well. I also made two tapes of a slightly different fabric that I wrapped around his legs.

And of course he needed a light sabre. I found this one in a shop.

Once MiniMojcek Nr.1 had one, MiniMojcek Nr.2 also wanted one - although his costume was something completely different. So I made one: a torch light, a green plastic rod and a bit of insulating tape. Done.

So now I have Luke Skywalker and a parrot fighting on my bed. Oh, well.
