Masters!

Escaping the Christmas-approaching craziness, I visited a wonderful exhibition, From Gauguin to Hopper, in Villa Manin, close to Udine.

 

My favourites were the self-portrait of Van Gogh, pine trees of Cezanne, Bonnard's sunset at Saint Tropez, Gaugin's Martinique, Monet's Antibes,  Courbet's wave ... and many more. Such masterpieces!

Of course no photographs from the actual exhibition. But some from Udine and Gradišče.

Christmas cards 2020

Now it's the perfect time to reveal this year's Christmas cards!

As I've been working quite a lot with wood this summer (kayak, remember?), I decided to use wood for the cards as well. So everyone got a tiny Christmas tree :-)

Now everyone can have the tree just as they like it: aligned, twisted or random.

Ad 1) There were many twigs left from the history school projects, so I used them to make a wreath.

Ad 3 & 4) I've always been a fan of candles and I had these from the Escape Room we organised not so long ago. You can still see one of the clues on one of the candles :-)

Oh, and I finally managed to read the Hygge book.
Well - it's not worth reading at all.
300 pages to tell you to light more candles :-)

And telling you the obvious - that the best thing you can do is spend time with people you like, doing things you like, eating food you like and be comfortable. Or should I say ... hygge.

Christmas cards

This year's Christmas cards were a little bit more than just cards.

They were little presents :-)

O Christmas tree...

My Dad used to buy Christmas trees usually a couple of hours before Christmas dinner and no wonder he usually got some miserable leftovers...

Now we learned to buy the tree a couple of days in advance. And we've got a wonderful fir.

Me happy.

Frozen Chandeliers

In Queenstown, New Zealand, there is a poem on the quay wall running along the lake: Waipounamu: The Lakes District by David Eggleton. It's a wonderful poem and although way too long to remember it all, there are certain phrases that I often think of. Like "frozen chandeliers".

And today, everywhere I looked, I saw frozen chandeliers:

Beautiful and yet so so horrible...

White Christmas!

Well, we have no snow but we still have a white Christmas!

And for the first time, we have a proper Christmas tree, with lights!

And of course home-made Christmas cookies!

Christmas cards

Now that the cards are already on their way I can finally publish this year's creations. Each year, I just have to make something new and so far I've been running out of Christmases, not of ideas :-)

So this year, the recipients are involved in card making! I started with decorated green and white paper and cut in a ... well ... certain shape.

You see where this is going, right?

To make things easier, I pre-folded the paper.

Some cards were white and some were dark green.

All the recipient had to do was to fold it again and glue the back sides together...

... and they have a special 3D Christmas-tree card. Merry Christmas!

Now that most of the Christmas cards have been sent (and hopefully received!), it's time to solve the card mystery.

Yep, a pencil shavings tree. A tree has become a pencil and a pencil has become a tree. Now THAT is recycling!

Oh, if you'll ever want to make your own tree: Jolly silver pencil is the best. By far! Believe me, I have tested 21 different pencils.

The large Christmas tree with plenty of presents waiting to be opened.

I got bags for my camera and lens plus two great books. Will write more about them later but just to make you curious: one is about interior design and one about fashion :-)


Our tiny Christmas tree was decorated with tiny seahorses, seashells and fish. If I haven't thanked you for the card yet, I'm doing it now.


And I even managed to bake six different kinds of cakes/pudding/dessert!
