A different Opera

One has to celebrate a birthday properly.

With a delicious cake.

So I made a matcha-pistachio-raspberry-yuzu-white chocolate opera cake :-)

I probably don't need to say it was super-delicious!

Jinbei

I can't believe I haven't posted anything for over two months.

Because I've been busy.

Because I've been away :-)

One of the things I did recently was a lovely jinbei shirt for Mr. Mojcek.

I had some super comfortable Japanese fabric:

Luckily I had a suitable thread at home :-)

The pattern is super simple, so it didn't take long and this comfy was finished.

I still need to iron it though. Oh well.

Another blue dress

I said I was going to be ready this summer!

Another blue dress I made:

It looks way better with a "belt" in the picture, but I still think I will wear it without.

Vintage obi purse

An almost-niece of mine is a huge fan of Japan and everything Japanese. So when she was celebrating her 16th birthday, I decided to make her a vintage obi purse. Made from the Fukuro obi my brother brought from Japan a few years ago.

I cut the fabrics so that one side is red and the other green.

It's not 100% perfect but I had such troubles sewing through 16 layers of fabric I broke a needle... Ooops!

Time flies ...

It's the end of November already and I cannot believe how quickly time flies. It's probably even consistent with the general relativity to say that the time flies with the speed of light, right? At least it feels this way.

Anyway, the Christmas decorations are up. The nativity scene is up. The Three Wise Men are already there! Ok, granted, Baby Jesus is still well in the womb but come on, people, it's Novemeber. NOVEMBER.

Another thing related to the beginning of Christmas season is the SILA charity bazaar where several countries sell typical produce/products/stuff. This year I bought - among other thigs - also some Japanese sweets.

My kids were not impressed. And honestly, neither was I. Sorry...

But that design... Seriously?

Leopard Kimono

When I started this blog, I said I'd show "an occasional penguin". I promise there will be more penguins coming soon but now it's time for an occasional leopard.

Not just an ordinary leopard - a leopard kimono!

Made as a birthday present for a friend of mine.

Vintage Obi Pillowcase

If you ever wondered how a vintage obi looks like from within - this is the answer:

It is much prettier from the other side:

My brother brought me this Fukuro obi from Japan a while ago. But it was so beautiful that I was too afraid to cut it... Anyway, now a good friend of mine - who adores Japan and everything Japanese - is moving and I needed a housewarming present. What could be more suitable than a pillow with a vintage obi pillowcase!
