Christmas is approaching...

... rapidly!

The town is already fully decorated, so it's time for me to follow.

This year I've made a super simple but very Christmassy wreath.

I'm happy.

Memories

To prepare two presents for two wonderful occasions, I scanned plenty of old photographs and made two photobooks.

I inherited the photos from my parents (who unfortunately passed away way too soon), so going through the photos was quite emotional.

But fun :-)

All these photos were taken between 1965 and 1967.

While I understand old skiing equipment, I cannot comprehend what my Dad was wearing for alpine hiking...

A lovely day for a walk

Another lovely day to walk around my home town.

32.5 km.

One of the many thousands to do it.

Kayaking and cycling time!

The next weekend was dedicated to kayaking.

Charity kayaking.

Let's just say that we, as a family, combined, finished as many laps as the 'winner'.

Oh well.

Next year we'll be better :-)

And I started Suffering again!

Sorry - Systming.

I will never ever get over this stupid name change!

A beauty

One casually goes to the city centre to do some Saturday shopping...

... and sees such a beauty.

A Ford GT 40.

City Museum

I don't know many countries that celebrate their 'culture' day with a day off work.

But we do.

And since we get a day off because of the culture, I usually dedicate the day to the culture.

So we visited the City Museum.

And this is probably the best display of artifacts I've ever seen. So cool.

!!!

Oh, I'll see your gray and stormy skies and raise you this beauty.

Yes, we were wet.

No, I didn't care.

A lovely evening

A lovely stroll along the river after a pretty enjoyable day.

I am not complaining.

Merry Christmas!

Kayaking for Christmas - check.

What to do Nr. 22

Well, what you could have done - is join me and the others at a charity event: 24 hours of paddling.

Obviously I didn't paddle for 24 hours straight (although some did!), but I nevertheless managed over 38 km (7 laps). Mr Mojcek did 77 km (14 laps). And the "winner" - she (yes, SHE!) did 165 km (30 laps)...

Now I've got blisters, feel tired, but happy and proud.

What to do Nr. 15

If you are allowed to, go for a walk.

This is the first time I left my house in 32 days!

PS. I also ate half a slice of bread for our traditional Easter breakfast. This was the first bread I had in almost six months! 5 months and 25 days to be precise.

Union Hotel

 My absence is excused.

I'm spending all days behind these wonderful Art Deco windows.

 In Hotel Union, Ljubljana.

But I will make it up.

One day.

I promise.

Update: some more pictures of the hotel.

We're having poster sessions here :-)

Immediate action

What do you do when you realise that your firstborn doesn't know one of the most famous and prominent buildings in your home town?

After the initial astonishment immediate action is required.

So we went on top of it. And had a lovely strawberry cake there.

Stars!

I just love kids' science projects. This time we went stargazing and it's amazing that just about 15 min from the city centre you can see a wonderful starry sky.

Orion with his large dog.

The two bears with Polaris.

All the best!

A slightly belated Happy 2²2²2²2²2²2-2²2²2+2!

I'm just looking ...

1. No, I'm not SUPing. I'm just looking.

2. No, I'm not swimming. I'm just looking.

However, Mr. Mojcek did swim.
And won silver medal in his first open-water swimming event :-)

3. No, I'm not cooking. I'm just eating.

We stumbled upon a potato festival, organised by the
Society for the Recognition of a Sautéed Potatoes as a Main Dish.
No, I'm not joking.
4. No, I'm not fighting. I'm just looking.

Did you know that the first documented boatmen's fight
on Ljubljanica river took place in 1092!
I also learned the distinction between Krakovo and Trnovo:
in Krakovo, there were fishermen and in Trnovo boatmen.

5. But I am taking photographs :-)

Time for a longer update

1. The conference that I co-organised was a huuuge success with some unforgettable moments.

Photo not by me. I was enjoying dinner :-)

2. I learned that physicists are very discreet people. And I'm going to be discreet as well, so no photos :-)

3. I've rock-climbed for the first time in over 10, probably 15 years. It felt soooo good to feel the rock again.

That's not me. But I did it as well.
4. I've paddled in a single kayak for the first time in over 10 years. It felt a bit wobbly at the beginning (as I'm used to heavier inflatable kayaks) but so much fun! I don't have any photos as I kept my camera/phone far away from water.

5. Museum of Optical Illusions is quite trippy.

6. Did I mention that Escape Rooms are great fun?

Snow!

There are only a few things that can calm me down during these ridiculously stressful times...

... and snow is one of them.

Ljubljana

A couple of years ago, I loved the Christmas decorations in Ljubljana. They were neat and lovely and just pretty.

Since then, they are just adding more and more and more... There is no editing, no coherence and it's just getting too messy.

Some ideas are cool albeit slightly off.

Others are very off ...

Some students used photosensitive threads and I love it

The best thing, however, are local graffiti!

What's up

April was too hot, May is too wet. But we still manage to have a day without rain and what could be more satisfying than hiking among gorgeous wildflowers...

Oh, and after many years (twenty, thirty ... who knows) the local sailing club organised a regatta in the city centre. Optimists :-)

The kids were cute, though.
