In the past month, two of my favourite painters/illustrators passed away.

Although Ančka Gošnik Godec was actually my second favourite illustrator when I was a child, there is this image in a book that was just perfect. It still is, actually. 

The story is about three foxes who love life, eat delicious food, drive fancy cars and live in luxurious houses. What is not to like ;-)

The second was Jack Vettriano. I've got one of his paintings (a poster, obviously) in my study, I've had his calenders and agendas, I have jigsaw puzzles, books and postcards with this paintings. I just love his style!

A picture taken from one of his calendars is permanently on my 'feel-good' wall. I could so imagine the woman being me...

Souvenirs

What do you do when you travel and want to bring a T-shirt for your older kid, but they don't have the right size? Even the airport shops let you down?

Well, you copy the T-shirt design and have the T-shirt printed in your local T-shirt-printig-shop :-)

These are Latvian pagan symbols, representing luck and success, wisdom and wealth.

I am still going through family stuff that I inherited, including clothes from my Mom - and me, when I was young. Here are some wonderful examples of how fashionable we used to be.

I was probably the best dressed at the age of 2-5!!!

Well, I'm officially old.

Because I cannot possibly imagine why anyone would want to wear these camel-toe cloven hoof boots...

Or this, for that matter. Seriously? Project Runway challenge gone wrong.

Green is greener

I love it!

The new Pantone colour of the year.

The green Greenery.

Finally I will stop seeing the hideous rose colour, which is just about everywhere, from baking trays to hair dye, from notebooks to shoes, from sports equipment to bathroom tiles.

And, while we're at it, my bathroom is already green, although all the architects told me it should be pale-brownish-creamishly-boring. So I guess I was just ahead of time ;-)

I used to love Pantone colours of the year for the last decade or even longer but this year... Nah.

I think my hompage will be in Marsala for another year.

A bag for spare clothes

When you have so much work to do that you don't even know where to start - you start another project. I'm surely not the only one who does this...

So I made a bag for spare kids' clothes. You know, a bag that is always packed and includes trousers, T-shirt, socks and underwear for MiniMojcek Nr1. and all this plus diapers, tissues etc for MiniMojcek Nr.2. So when you want to go out with the kids, all you have to do is grab this bag and you're sure you're not forgetting anything. 

I used  the "O, boy!" fabrics by David Walker:

I did struggle a bit with the execution. You know, the lining, the pockets, the zipper etc.

But I'm pretty happy with the final result. It even has two inner pockets:

 

And it opens flat :-)

Now I only have to fill it and it will be ready.

Dancing the night away

I've already written about the vector drawings I did for a 'client'. Now I had to do some more:

For quite some time I've been drawing for a friend of mine so it's about time I share some of my drawings with you... I know they're not perfect mainly because I don't have enough time to finish them properly - but they are not bad. I think ;-)

Arabic writing

Well, Faux Arabic writing. I've spent quite some time figuring out how to write something that would look like Arabic without being Arabic. I think I managed it quite successfully.





I definitely fooled my cousin, who started reading the text from right to left (-:

New design.. finally!

Now you must have noticed. No more Patrick's green, no more pastel colours, no, this time it's for real. It took me ages and plenty of different colour schemes to get to this one - that I not only like but can identify myself with it.

I can show you one version - the boring one, which was just too pale.


I tried to add a bit of contrast colours - but ended up with this ice-cream coloured pattern. It was just too... girly for me. Yeah, and that comes from someone who writes a blog about sewing, reading and card making!

Anyway. As much as I liked this version, it was just not me. I don't have any pastels in my closet, most of my clothes are either black, red or in earth tones. I love contrasts, edginess (is this a word?) and strong colours. So I took this into account - and the next version was this one:



But again, I can't say what I didn't like about it, but it didn't seem right. So, I changed it again. I'm still not happy but getting closer.
